The X-Men crash land in Central Park as the Dark Phoenix unleashes her fury. The X-Men are no match for the power of the Dark Phoenix as the former X-Man known as Jean Grey proceeds to destroy her team mates.
At the Hellfire Club, the X-Men have been reported to the police as criminals on the run. Sebastian Shaw tries to talk Senator Kelly, a guest that evening at the Hellfire Club, into the Sentinels programme as a means to deal with the “mutant menace”. In a distance, they witness the enormous silhouette of the Phoenix. Other superhero beings also detect the Phoenix, including the Fantastic Four, Spiderman, Dr Strange and the Silver Surfer, as she soars deep into space.
Meanwhile, Beast hurries to the aid of the fallen X-Men and transport them back to the mansion.
In New Mexico at Warren’s home, Professor Xavier is conferencing with Moira MacTaggert regarding the Phoenix’s latest developments. Xavier intends to leave for New York immediately to stop the Dark Phoenix before she causes “absolute” corruption.
Hungry for more power, the Dark Phoenix proceeds to feed on the star, D’Bari, and in the process, destroying this star system and its planets, one of which is inhibited. This act of cruelty does not go unnoticed by the Shi’ar and they start attacking the Dark Phoenix. Empress Lilandra is alerted to the threat of the Dark Phoenix. For the fate of the universe, the Dark Phoenix must be stopped.
Back at the mansion, the X-Men are recovering from their attack. A troubled Cyclops is alerted by his psychic rapport that he shares with Jean to the Dark Phoenix’s return to Earth, hungry for even more power.
