Uncanny X-Men (Vol 1) #15: Prisoners of the Mysterious Master Mold!

The shifting terrain takes the X-Men by surprise. Angel flies Xavier to safety while the rest of the X-Men make their way to higher and stable grounds. Xavier deduces that the Sentinels have a weakness. The first task would be to get the X-Men across the chasm separating them from the fortress. Iceman fashions an ice glider for him and Beast. With the aid of Cyclops’ blasts, they are launched across the chasm. Angel follows behind to catch them in case they fall off. Iceman and Beast end up being captured by the fortress instead.

Inside, Dr Trask is summoned by Master Mold. Master Mold threatens to wipe out half the human population of the United States if Trask doesn’t reveal to him how to create more Sentinels.

Angel returns to the safety area across the chasm. Xavier mentally attacks the Sentinels and stops the rays that were attacking them. The three X-Men make their way into the fortress as Beast is being “psycho-probe[d]”. Gaining insight into Beast’s childhood, Beast had discovered his incredible agility during a fight with the school bully. With his abilities, Beast excelled in sports, as well as academics. But people had begun to suspect Beast of being not completely “human”. It was Xavier to found and nurtured Beast to better harness his abilities for good.

Meanwhile, Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Warren find Iceman and free him of his glass prison. Xavier had been tracking Beast and mentally interferes to stop Beast from revealing the secrets of the X-Men. But Master Mold senses the presence of Xavier’s astral form and attacks him with “micro-electric blasts”. Xavier fights to get back into his human body before it becomes a vegetable.

Iceman, Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Angel encounter Sentinels at every turn. As they try to evade them, a “heavy gravity ray” is activated, pining the X-Men to the ground.
