Jean invites Ororo out on a girls’ night, together with Jean’s room mate, Misty, and Misty’s “partner-in-crimefighting”, Colleen. They head to Chinatown’s Silver Lotus for dinner. When the girls start complaining about their significant others, and Misty declaring it her mission of the night to find a date for the still single Ororo, Ororo starts feeling uneasy around the girls. Suddenly, they all pass out from the effects of their drugged dinner.
The four wake up to find themselves in a warehouse. Their captor is Nightshade, a criminal that Misty had formerly put away behind bars. Nightshade had put collars around their necks to keep the girls in check with the threat of electrocution.
Nightshade has Ororo steal S.H.I.E.L.D.’s “Mnemonic Adaptive Transmitter”. Once Ororo successfully infiltrates S.H.I.E.L.D. and returns with the loot, Nightshade has Jean pull the martial arts knowledge from Misty and Colleen, and transfer it into Nightshade’s “Cybernauts”. Suddenly, it starts pouring. When Ororo returned from S.H.I.E.L.D. and just before Nightshade turned her collar back on, Ororo initiated a drizzle that developed into a thunderstorm, to draw the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D. to them.
Nightshade takes off and Ororo gives chase. Jean, Misty and Colleen are left to fend themselves against the Cybernauts. Ororo takes care of Nightshade, and returns to the aid of her friends. Having picked the lock of her collar, Ororo is now able to use her powers against the Cybernauts.
On that eventful night, orbiting the sun is “Starcore One”. Peter Corbeau, designer and head of Starcore One, desperately establishes contact with Charles Xavier, to warn him of impending doom for the world from an alien invasion. Xavier hears Corbeau’s cries and summons his X-Men.
