The Scott and Jean Archives
Out on a frozen lake, Wanda is teaching Jean how to ice-skate. Wobbly at first but within minutes, Jean is skating like a pro. She attributes it to being a fast learner, but Wanda suspects that Jean is showing off with the help of her telekinesis. Using her hex powers, Wanda makes the ice crack under Jean, causing Jean to fall into the freezing water.
Natasha, aka Black Widow of S.H.I.E.L.D., who had been observing the two mutants, leaps in to help Jean out of the water. Freezing and miffed, Jean tells Wanda to leave her alone for the time being. After helping Jean to the changing room, Natasha comes to talk to Wanda, and leads Wanda to believe that Jean is upset with her and left.
Natasha had been sent to bring Wanda to S.H.I.E.L.D. and had seized the opportunity to lure Wanda away from Jean. Jean, thinking Wanda had been kidnapped, alerts Xavier to help her find her friend.
Xavier finds Scarlett Witch in Massachusetts, where Wanda finds herself in landed in a fight between long term rivals S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra. Hydra’s army take off with the Arronax, a research submarine. Scarlett Witch and S.H.I.E.L.D. are chasing the submarine when Marvel Girl and Angel ambush them from above. Marvel Girl had mistaken S.H.I.E.L.D. for her friend’s kidnappers, but Scarlett Witch quickly convinces the X-Men that S.H.I.E.L.D. are good guys. Angel is urges to fly the pilot of the boat they are on as a whirlpool sucks the boat under.
Black Widow, Scarlett Witch and Marvel Girl find themselves captured by Hydra. After a brief conversation, Scarlett Witch and Marvel Girl clear the air on the misunderstanding that landed them in this situation. Annoyed with Hydra, Marvel Girl uses her telekinesis to deflect the guards away, but that ends up with her being zapped and put into a chair that neutralizes her powers. Hydra starts to brainwash them when Xavier telepathically reaches out to Marvel Girl and Scarlett Witch. With Xavier briefly blocking Hydra’s brainwashing frequency, they are able to break Black Widow free of her restraints. She is able to cause a momentarily distraction, buying them enough time for S.H.I.E.L.D.S.'s reinforcements to rescue them.
After that, S.H.I.E.L.D. tries to convince Scarlett Witch to join them, since she has no affiliations and is allied with the X-Men. She declines the offer on the grounds that espionage requires deception and lies, and she values honesty and friendship.
