Scott Summers stares at his reflection in a panel of ruby quartz. He is going to “commit suicide” today.
He thinks back on the events that happened two years. Because of an oversight, Cyclops gave “Subject X” enough time to “[activate]” the “Ghost Box: A device that gates across parallel worlds”.
Subject X had been sent to scout for “a parallel Earth to annex and colonise”. Ghost Boxes soon opened around the world and the world as Cyclops had known was destroyed. Everyone around him perished.
Scott cannot live with this guilt any longer and takes his own life.
